Appealbase MCP

Use Appealbase inside ChatGPT or Claude to search English planning appeal decisions, browse appeals by date, read full inspector reasoning, and search your saved decisions or saved searches — without leaving your assistant. In ChatGPT, use our official Appealbase app. In Claude, connect via the Model Context Protocol (MCP) (steps below).

List appeals

List appeals decided on a specific day or within a date range — useful for “what was decided last week?” without a keyword search.

Search appeals

Full-text search with filters (LPA, outcome, appeal type, procedure, inspector, dates). Returns summaries and metadata; use the retrieve tool for complete decision text.

Search your saves

Search only your saved decisions (all of them, or one folder), or run one of your named saved searches — useful for “among the cases I already saved” without searching the full catalog.

Get appeal text

Fetch the full decision notice for a reference (e.g. 3371786). Long decisions are returned in chunks so the assistant can read them in full.

What you need

  • • A free Appealbase account (sign in with email or Google). Web search on Appealbase stays free regardless.
  • • MCP call limits depend on your account tier. Need more allowance? See Appealbase Pro.
  • • We sign you in with OAuth when you connect — you do not paste passwords or API keys into ChatGPT or Claude.

ChatGPT

The easiest way to use Appealbase in ChatGPT is our official app in the ChatGPT Apps directory.

Open Appealbase in ChatGPT
  1. Open the link above (sign in to ChatGPT first if prompted).
  2. When Appealbase asks you to connect, sign in to your Appealbase account and approve access.
  3. Ask planning questions in natural language — e.g. “Find allowed appeals about grey belt in the last year”, “Search my saved Green Belt folder”, or “Get the full text for appeal 3371786.”

Claude

Claude supports an install link that opens the add-connector dialog with our name and server URL prefilled. You review and confirm before anything is connected.

Connect Appealbase in Claude
  1. Open the link above (sign in to Claude first if prompted). Confirm the prefilled connector details.
  2. When Claude connects, sign in to Appealbase and authorize access.
  3. Start a conversation and ask about planning appeals; Claude will call Appealbase tools when relevant.

To add the connector manually instead, open Settings → Connectors and enter the MCP server URL: https://www.appealbase.com/api/mcp

Tips for good results

  • • Search summaries are truncated — ask the assistant to fetch full text before discussing inspector reasoning or conclusions.
  • • Searches use exact words and phrases by default (so “wind” does not match “window”). Ask for a broader/stemmed search only if you want that.
  • • Inspector findings are separable from policy recitation when the finding is expressed negatively (e.g. “not well related”), and not otherwise. Local policy is not drafted in the negative, so that form usually marks the inspector's own conclusion; the positive form appears in both.
  • • Always verify appeal references and metadata from Appealbase results; do not rely on the model to invent case details.
  • • Ask the assistant to include Appealbase decision links when citing cases so you can easily check them.
