AppealBase MCP

Use AppealBase inside ChatGPT or Claude to search English planning appeal decisions, browse appeals by date, and read full inspector reasoning — without leaving your assistant. You connect via the Model Context Protocol (MCP). Add our MCP server URL in ChatGPT or Claude (steps below).

list_appeals

List appeals decided on a specific day or within a date range — useful for “what was decided last week?” without a keyword search.

search_appeals

Full-text search with filters (LPA, outcome, development type, dates). Returns summaries and metadata; use the retrieve tool for complete decision text.

get_appeal_full_text

Fetch the full decision notice for a reference (e.g. 3371786). Long decisions are returned in chunks so the assistant can read them in full.

What you need

  • • A free AppealBase account (sign in with email or Google).
  • • MCP access is included for registered users; monthly call limits depend on your account tier.
  • • We sign you in with OAuth when you connect — you do not paste database passwords into ChatGPT or Claude.
  • • MCP server URL (use exactly): https://www.appealbase.com/api/mcp

ChatGPT

Add our MCP server in ChatGPT. ChatGPT discovers the server from the URL you enter and opens a browser sign-in to AppealBase.

  1. In ChatGPT, open SettingsApps (or Connectors, depending on your plan) and add an MCP server.
  2. When prompted for a server URL, enter: https://www.appealbase.com/api/mcp
  3. Complete sign-in on AppealBase (create an account first if needed). Approve access for search and retrieve scopes.
  4. Ask planning questions in natural language — e.g. “Find allowed appeals about grey belt in the last year” or “Get the full text for appeal 3371786.”

Disconnect anytime from ChatGPT's connector or app settings. See our Privacy Statement for how MCP usage is handled.

Claude

Claude supports an install link that opens the add-connector dialog with our name and server URL prefilled. You review and confirm before anything is connected.

  1. Open the link above (sign in to Claude first if prompted). Confirm the prefilled connector details.
  2. When Claude connects, sign in to AppealBase and authorize access.
  3. Start a conversation and ask about planning appeals; Claude will call AppealBase tools when relevant.

To add the connector manually instead, open SettingsConnectors and enter the MCP server URL: https://www.appealbase.com/api/mcp

API keys (Custom GPT & integrations)

Some setups use a Bearer API key instead of OAuth — for example an OpenAI Custom GPT configured with Actions, or direct HTTP calls to POST /api/mcp. Keys are issued per account; view yours under Account settings when available. For partner REST access (search firehose, citation checker), see API access and the developer reference.

Tips for good results

  • • Search summaries are truncated — ask the assistant to fetch full text before discussing inspector reasoning or conclusions.
  • • Use specific planning terms and quoted phrases for multi-word concepts (e.g. “green belt”).
  • • Always verify appeal references and metadata from AppealBase results; do not rely on the model to invent case details.
